It may be remarked here that a will was usually proved in the Prerogative Court of the Archbishop of Canterbury,
and not in the Diocesan Court, when the testator left property in more than one diocese.
There is no doubt that about the time Sir Baptist Hicks took Campden in hand things had got into a
parlous state in the borough, and it was very much decayed. Its wool trade had almost if not quite, gone, there were
few monied residents, practically no merchants, and but a few yeomen (82). Hemp growing, apart from agriculture and the
