The Will of Richard Broad, Maltster of Chedworth 1805
In the Name of God Amen, I Richard BROAD of the Parish of Chedworth in the County of Gloucester (Maltster) being of Perfect Mind and Memory thanks be given unto God, calling unto Mind the Mortality of my Body, and Knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the Hand of Almighty God that gave it, And my Body I recommend to the Earth to be Buried in decent Christian Burial, at the Discretion of my Executrix herein after Named, and as touching such Wordly Estate where with it has pleased God to bless me in this Life, I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following Manner and Form:
Imprimis, I give and bequeath to my wellbeloved Wife Catherine BROAD all my Real and Personal Estate freely to be possessed and enjoyed by Her during her natural Life but in case there should be a Necesity to sell Part of my Estate for the Payment of my Debts, then my Wife Catherine BROAD shall have full Power to sell part of it for that Purpose and for no Other Purpose whatsoever.
Item At the Decease of my Wife Catherine BROAD I give to my son John BROAD his Heirs and Assigns, for ever all my estate that I Purchased of Robert MIDWINTER (subject to a Mortgage now upon it) Together with an Inclosed piece of Land I lately purchased of John BELLINGER lyeing in the Wood Field known by the name of Grays Lays all which premises are situate in the Parish of Chedworth.
Item, At the Decease of my Wife Catherin BROAD I Give to my Daughter Catherine BROAD her Heirs and Assigns for ever All that cottage, House and Garden together with a Piece of Land Three Quarters of an Acre, be the same more or Less Lying in Oldgore Field which said Premises I lately Purchased of John BELLINGER and are situate in the Parish of Chedworth. Also At the Decease of my Wife Catherine BROAD I give to my Daughter Catherine BROAD and her Heirs for Ever, all that Cottage, House and Garden I lately purchased of William ROBINS situatwe in Chedworth Aforesaid. And Last of all I do make and ordain my Beloved Wife Catherine BROAD Whole and sole Executrix of this my Last will and Testament whom I also charge with the Payment of my Debts (except the Mortgage before mentioned) and Funeral Expenses. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all and every other former Testament, Wills, Legacies, Bequests, and Executors,by me in anyways before Named, Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament: In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this Fourteenth Day of March One Thousand Eight Hundred and Three
