While with the White Rock/Surrey Naturalists. The late Rene Savenye (see Blackey Spit page) lead his annual inter-tidal walk at the foot of 1001 Steps, Ocean Park. Formerly a teacher at Princess Margaret High School, Surrey until retirement. During his last hunt on July 26, 2002, the amateur naturalist was struck by lightning near Lake Louise. Rene Savenye died at 63 doing the work he passionately loved. - Allan Taylor (site owner)
